Bringing the idea of ‘impulse buying’ to the Ercol client.
Concept and Inspiration
The idea behind the Üçgen Table (meaning triangle in Turkish) was to produce a product that the Ercol client would fall in love with and instantly purchase.
Inspiration was gained from Lucian Ercolani’s original pebble tables hoping to gain advantage from their commercial success to help design for comfort, design for function and design for beauty.
The concept expresses interest for levels and to find a unique way to address different heights and add a different perspective to nesting tables.
Technical and Production
Having won the Ercol project for best design and commercial potential, the makers at Ercol custom made my tables for me. Personally made technical drawings were sent to Ercol and were sent back with slight changes and drawings of their own. The bottom surface was made larger than the original and the holes were tweaked.
The outcome of the product is amazing and clearly highlights the principles of Ercol whilst still meeting the brief. The Üçgen table can be easily used as a coffee or side table; it does not limit the user and allows them freedom. Table surfaces were made of ash with beech legs.
